Once we edited our teaser trailer for the first time we uploaded it onto facebook in order to get facebook from people from a specific target audience age group. By doing this we recieved both positive and negative feedback, which we found helped us a lot. We re-edited our teaser trailer once we had recieved this feed back and added a voice over to the first few shots of our trailer and re-filmed some shots where people had noticed some errors and pointed out to where we could improve. We also decided that it would be more effective if we added a shot which created a twist to the narrative to fit the conventions of a Romantic Comedy. We also decided the beauty and brain shots weren't giving the effect we had wanted to achieve so we decided that we needed them to be more over the top like the rest of the trailer, so we re-filmed these two sections and were happy with the final results.Thursday, March 17, 2011
Audience feedback
Once we edited our teaser trailer for the first time we uploaded it onto facebook in order to get facebook from people from a specific target audience age group. By doing this we recieved both positive and negative feedback, which we found helped us a lot. Whilst filming our teaser trailer we tried to use as many typical comedy conventions to fit the genre of our film. We decided to set our film in an American high school and based our humour around adolescence conflict. We also decided to use narrative comedy a typical convention of a relationship developing between two characters.
Whilst filming we also tried to use as many different camera angles and shots as possible that were conventional to the genre of our film, similar to films such as 'Juno'. We used close ups,and extreme close ups to focus on the characters movements to represent and emphasise their personalities and their stereotypical 'geek' characteristics. Whilst filming we used a tripod to situate the camera and pan the area of the shot to follow movements of the characters, as well as to have the setting present in the background of the shots, showing the high school setting, which is typical of an American teen comedy.
We tried to make our humour as obvious a possible through mise-en-scene, props, costume, stereotypes, costume and unconventional scenes. This helps to allow the audience to laugh at the characters and the personalities that they portray throughout the film, we tried to makethe costume that they are wearing to be stereotypical of a geek in comparison to the beauty shot of a popular student from the same school. We decided to make everything in our teaser trailer over the top to help to add to the humour and make the genre of the film more obvious to the audiece.
The narrative of our film is not only conventional of a comedy, but also has some conventions of spoof and romance films.
We were inspired by the films 'Juno', 'Scary Movie' and 'Napoleon Dynamite'. The reason we chose to create this type of film was due to wanting to entertain our particular audience which was between the age of 15 and 18 as we hoped that they would relate to a film of this particula genre.

Editing process
Throughout the editing process for our teaser trailer we struggled to find suitable music for it, we also found it difficult to make sure that our teaser trailer was around the conventional timing, and was no longer than it should be. Our filming schedule did not go to plan as we found it difficult to film certain shots just in one day. We ended up filming on five different occasions and even filmed right up into the last week. We used the same font for our titles as in the film title, which we found on http://www.dafont.com. We the had to create the titles as pictures and add these into our film. The music had to be edited as it wasn't originally long enough to fit the whole trailer, so we had to add it in twice and repeat certain sections. We also recorded a voice over as was suggested in the audience feedback and re-shot the two opening shots. We made sure that the voice over was done in an American accent to fit the American theme of our film. We used a male voice as conventionally, a male would be the voice over for most profit making films. We had to cut a number of shots short so that they ran quickly as a comedy teaser trailer usually would. This also allowed the trailer to be a bit shorter and fit the conventional time of a teaser trailer, under a minute.

Film Magazine
Within our coursework to help to promote our film we had to design a film magazine cover focussing mainly of our film. We had the choice to either use an existing film magazine or create your own. We decided to create our own film magazine, we came to a group decision to call our film magazine 'Movie Reel' as we felt that this was an appropriate play on words and helped to emphasise the comedy within our film.We decided to use a colour scheme of red, blue and white as these are the colours for the American flag, and this helped to emphasise the films American production and style. We used the same font for the title of our film as on our film poster and within our teaser trailer for continuity. We also used the same tag line as in our film poser to again emphasise the comedy within our film.We also used the other groups in our classes film posters to use on the front cover of our magazine to advertise them aswell as our own film, but our film 'Wrongcom' was still the main focus on the cover, we used the other groups in our cxlasses films as they were not copyrighted. We used different fonts for each other films, we tried to use fonts that we felt were relevent to that particular film. We also slanted each of the pictures to help to make the cover stand out and be more appealing to the consumer. We used a white background to keep to our red, blue and white American theme and to also make the picture of our main characters stand out and be the main focus to the consumer eye. We staged our characters for this picture so that the central image looks like that seen at a prom. We tried to be as conventional as possbile when designing and making the magazine by adding a runner at the bottom and positioning our titles and images similiarly to those seen in 'Total film' and 'Empire' as these were the magazines we drew inspiration from. Once our magazine cover was complete we created a questionaire with questions relevant about the magazine and that would enable us to establish a general public point of view. We handed this out to 20 people aged between 15-25
1) What do you think of the title for our magazine cover?Majority answer was that it looked proffessional and was a good size that stood out
2)Do you think our magazine looks realistic? All answered yes
3) Do you think that the colour scheme of the magazine looks professional? What mark would you give it out of ten?majority gave us between 7 - 9 out of 10 and said it looked proffessiona
l4) Does the magazine cover promote the film wellAll answered yes
5) Can you rate the magazine out of ten?Majority answered between 7 - 9
6) What changes would you make to the magazine cover if any?Majority said to review colours and fonts
7) Can you spot any mistakes? All answered no
8) Does the magazine cover make you want to buy the magazine and find out more about the film? All answered yes
9) Would you consider watching the film after seeing it on the magazine cover? All answered yes

Film Poster
We finally finished our film poster after weeks of editing and tweeking. We experimented with many fonts and colours and the main picture needed further editing, mostly around the edges of peoples faces. We came to a group decision that we would use the font 'comic sans' for the tag line and the titles on our film poster. We done a lot of our research on the film poster for the film 'Juno', as this film was also made by 'Fox searchlight' so this helped us to make it look more professional by focussing it around the 'Juno' film poster. We added the 'Fox searchlight' logo to help it look more professional and realistic. We decided to be unconventional by having the poster landscape instead of portrait and by having other people in the background, instead of it just being focused on the main characters, We did this because the film is generally unconventional and we wanted to emphasise this with our film poster.
Once we finally completed our film poster we created a questionnaire and handed it out to 20 people aged 15-18 as this is our target audience:
1) By looking at the film poster, what do you think the storyline/plot is?Most candidates replied with 'comdey' or 'romantic comedy'
2) Can you determine the main character? All candidates replied yes
3) What are your opinins on the colour scheme? Most candidates replied that it 'suits the genre' and is 'bright and eyecatching'
4) What do you think of the fonts? All replied 'clear and easy to read' and 'suits the genre'
5) Does it look professional? All candidates replied 'yes'
6) Can you see any significant mistakes? All candidates replied 'No'
The positive feedback that we got back allows us to feel postive and confident about our film poster, as before we got any feedback we had doubts that the main characters would not be easily determined and that people wouldn't understand what the poster was advertising.

Moodboard
For part of our courswork we decided to make a moodboard which was focused on our two main characters personalities, Buddy and April. We split the page in two, a side for each of the characters. On Aprils side we used the colours pink and purple and for Buddy we used the colours green and blue to empahsise their gender. We also put pictures of a calculators and maths sums and the symbol of pi to emphasise that they are geeks. Also on Buddy's side we drew a picture of a dinasaur as seen on our film poster. We also put pictures of the game 'World of Warcraft' as this is a typical geeks computer game. There is also a drawn on picture of an 'x-box' as this is a popular boys hobby. The American flag in the middle of the mood board emphasises the American theme of our film. At the bottom of our mood board there is a line from the Buddy Holly song 'Everyday' as this was orginally the song we wanted for our film.

What is the overall concept behind your promotional package
The concept of my groups promotional package of a film poster, magazine cover and a teaser trailer these are all to attract people to the film, and make people want to find out more about it and go and see it. They are all directed at the films target audience, as the particular audience will know what they are looking for in a film. The film poster will be released first and it will have the films release date on it, it will show the characters, have the tag line, some of the actors and directors names, and title of the film on it, not revealing too much information about the film, as the first poster will be a teaser poster. Then the magazine will be released with the film, 'Wrongcom' on the front cover of the magazine, this magazine will reveal a bit more information about the film with interviews with the director and some of the actors inside. Lastly, the teaster trailer will be released.
We want our film poster to show how our film is going to be unconventional the film is going to be and it also gives the information of who the actors are that will be appearing in our film, also just by looking at the characters you are able to see what the characters are going to be like, which are typical American 'geeks'.
The film magazine is going to give the potential audience a bit more information about the film, the cover is attempt to get them to buy the magazine to find out more about that film, and other films that are going to be released around the same time as our film. Both the film poster and magazine cover have different pictures.
The teaser trailer is going to show various clips some footage from the actual film and some that have just been shot for the teaser trailer. This will show audience a lot more about the film.

Use of new media technology in the research and planning stages
Throughout the research and planning stages new media and digital technology have played a huge part in helping us make important decisions towards our teaser trailer, film magazine and movie poster.
We have used mostly the interest to do all of our research, we also done it by watching examples of teaser trailers on dvd players. We mainly used the internet to do most of our research. The internet again allowed us to research the conventions of movie posters and film magazines, in order to ensure our work looked professional.
As three members of our group are photography students so they knew how to use photoshop to edit our pictures. As they were photography students they knew the limits of what they could edit the pictures. This helped us prepare for the photo shoots, because we knew certain elements could be edited in post production.
